Student Opportunities

SPSP hosts, co-hosts, and supports several summer learning opportunities in the area of social and personality psychology. Offered to pre-doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate students, these programs offer unique experiences focused on education, hands-on training, networking, and research.

Summer Institute for Social and Personality Psychology (SISPP)

With National Science Foundation funding, the Society for Personality and Social Psychology offers bi-annually (in odd-numbered years) a two-week intensive summer experience for up to 100 pre-doctoral students in social and personality psychology.

Social-Personality Undergraduate Research (SPUR) Program

The Social-Personality Undergraduate Research (SPUR) Program was originally created as a summer research internship for students interested in pursuing a graduate degree in social-personality psychology. In 2021, the program will transition into a March to December model with a similar mission—to expand opportunities for research experience for students from historically underrepresented racial backgrounds.

Society of Australasian Social Psychologists (SASP)

SPSP and the Society of Australasian Social Psychologists (SASP) participate in a summer school exchange program. The Australasian Summer School, which is held for a week (usually in early February) in even-numbered years, offers up to 36 places to graduate students placed across three workshops. In its agreement with SPSP, SASP reserves up to three places for students currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program.

European Association of Social Psychology (EASP)

The EASP Summer School is organized every two years (in even-numbered years) and is a central activity of the European Association. SPSP selects five students to attend (one for each workstream) and reimburses up to $750 in expenses.

European Association of Personality Psychology (EAPP)

SPSP selects two graduate students (master's or PhD level) to attend the week-long, EAAP-sponsored Summer School of Personality Science (SSPS). SPSP reimburses up to $750 in travel expenses; lodging and some meals are provided.
